Transform your ideas about the library: celebrate National Library Week April 10-16
Alpine, TX –This week, the Sul Ross State University (SRSU) Library joins libraries in schools, campuses, and communities nationwide in celebrating the dynamic changes that are happening in today’s libraries. April 10-16 is National Library Week, a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians, and library workers.
Libraries today are more about what they do, for, and with library users as opposed to what they have. Libraries aren’t only a quiet place of study, but also resourceful and engaging community centers where people can collaborate and create, learn how to search for resources, or just relax. Our library offers access to a variety of print and digital resources, which include over 175,000 eBooks, over 150 databases, and access to a personal librarian face-to-face or via our online chat service.
Libraries of all types are evolving to meet the needs of the communities they serve. At the SRSU Library, we are transforming by offering end of semester De-Stress Fests (including library yoga, cuddling with pups, and coloring), Big Bend Comic Con, and a brand new way to search across our entire print and online collections from the homepage, library.sulross.edu !
Libraries are many things to many people. They work with elected officials, small business owners, students, and the public at large to discover and address the needs of their communities. Whether through offering e-book and database access, materials for researchers and faculty, public programs, or offering a safe haven in times of crisis, libraries and librarians listen to the community they serve, and they respond.
The SRSU Library is celebrating National Library Week by participating in the American Library Association (ALA) #LibrariesTransform campaign. Stop by to show us how the SRSU Library has transformed a piece of your life.
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April.
