Recuerdos, a newly formed guitar trio, will perform in concert as part of the Big Bend Chamber Music series at St. James Episcopal Church at 6 p.m. on March 6.

The trio is composed of three guitar teachers – Steven Bennack, who has been part of the Sul Ross music faculty for 17 years; Victor Chong, a native of El Paso and Ciudad Juarez who earned an associate degree in music from El Paso Community college, currently teaches guitar and is working on his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with Bennack and Justin Rodriguez, also from El Paso, who is pursuing an degree in music education with Bennack and plans to teach guitar professionally.

Bennack is well known in the Big Bend for his skill as a guitarist and as a double bass player and pianist in classical music, jazz, rock, musical theater, country and blues.

Chong has studied with Eric Slavin and has developed a wide repertoire in guitar works from Brazil, Paraguay, Spain, Mexico, Germany and the U. S.

In addition to guitar, Rodriguez plays several instruments and also sings bass/baritone with the Sul Ross Choir.

The 45-minute program will feature trio, duet and solo works for classical guitar from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras as well as works from the 20th Century, with an emphasis on Latin American composers.

The free concert is followed by a reception with the artists. St. James is located at N. 6th St. and Ave. A in Alpine.
