Longtime Precinct 1 Brewster County Commissioner Asa Leroy “Cookie” Stone announced his resignation this morning. Stone read a short statement at the start of commissioners court, and without detailing reasons for his resignation, said it is effective at the end of the month.
Stone is the second Brewster County Commissioner to resign this year. In July, Precinct 2 Commissioner Tom Williams resigned.
Tomorrow, the Terlingua Common School Board will have a regular board of trustees meeting. During that meeting, an agenda item will consider whether to accept the resignation of an unidentified school board member.
Next month the Terlingua school will hold the first school board election in nearly thirty years. School board president Rick Page, who has held that position for thirty years, is not seeking reelection.
