Julianne Braun, the south Brewster County resident who is spearheading a campaign to limit tax revenues to an 8% increase before voters, announced today that 534 residents have signed petitions to have a special election.
According to Braun, if ten percent of registered voters or about 750 registered voters sign the petition, the matter of how much the county can increase tax revenues will be decided in a special election.
Braun has told the Gazette, she will not turn in the signatures until she and other residents have collected at least 800 signatures, and is hopeful 1,000 residents will sign.
The group is gathering signatures of registered Brewster County residents to have a voter referendum to reduce the 22% increase in Brewster County tax revenues to an 8% increase, or keep the increase in place. If the petition gatherers collect over 750 signatures from residents, the tax rollback will be decided by voters in a special election.
