The Sul Ross State University Music Program of the Department of Fine Arts and Communication is pleased to announce that their University Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble will appear in concert at Marshall Auditorium, on the Sul Ross State University Campus, on Thursday, March 9th at 7:30pm. These groups consist of very talented musicians from a variety of academic disciplines and members of the community. Admission is free.
The first half of the concert is a “Madrigal History Tour.” The Concert Choir and their director Dr. Donald Callen Freed will take you through a potpourri of madrigal selections by composers Certon, Downland, del Encina, Isaac, Pilkington, and Tallis. The program will also feature Dr. Freed’s setting of “Fair Iris I Love.”
The Wind Ensemble will perform an assortment of music for developing bands, conducted by SRSU Music students Christian Diaz-Sosa, Molly Ferguson, Anna Kathryn Holmes, Malyssa Reed, Amber Strach, and Nicolas Westerlink. The concert will conclude with a performance of Robert Jager’s Third Suite for Band, conducted by Dr. Jeffrey J. Meyer.
