Four area high school marching bands – Alpine, Seagraves, Van Horn and Wink – will appear in concert and competition Saturday, Oct. 1 at Jackson Field on the Sul Ross State University campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Department of Fine Arts and Communication and the Sul Ross music program.
On Saturday morning, each group will receive an intensive clinic from invited guests Kenneth Capshaw, director of the University of Texas at El Paso Marching Miners; percussionist Art Avila, sponsored by Monk Drums, Promark, and Evans; and the Sul Ross instrumental music and marching band faculty.
At 3 p.m., the bands will battle for awards in the categories of best drum line, best marching, best music, and best overall effect. Concessions sold at the event will benefit the Sul Ross Student Music Club.
