In documents obtained by the Gazette through an open records request with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot), the Gazette has learned that on January 31, 2013, the Texas Transportation Commission approved increasing the speed limit from 70 to 75 miles per hour on over 650 miles of roads in west Texas. However, to date, no signs showing the increased speed limits have been posted.
