Be afraid, be very, very afraid!
SOUTH BREWSTER COUNTY—Imagine going to a PTA meeting to find that you will be entertained by a cast of teachers dressed as students. But the performance is designed to put the fear of God into everyone about the evils of marijuana. There are few perfidies of which the devil weed is not accused, because the principal, played by Billy Miller, is bent on terrifying parents about what their kids are getting into. Welcome to Reefer Madness, Joe Landry’s send-up of a movie that had those very fear-mongering goals.
Catfish Callaway directs Elizabeth Thompson, Troy Sergent, Moises Martinez, Pablo Menudo, Shoshana Perkins, and Chris Lee, as well as Billy Miller, who plays an additional seven characters. The play opens Friday, February 26, with a gala 7 pm opening at the Cinnabar Theater on Hwy 118 in Terlingua. A new sign on the highway will make the theater easier to find.
The show will run February 27-March 6 with curtain times of 8 pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 pm matinees on Sundays.
To get everyone into the spirit of the period, we are offering prizes for the best 1950s-era outfits on opening night, so dig out those poodle skirts and rolled up jeans and bobby sox, ‘cause the joint is going to be jumping!
Last Minute Low Budget Productions is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) community theater group that began putting on plays in the Terlingua area in 1989. The all-volunteer cast and crew hail from the area. All tax-exempt donations much appreciated.
