At tonight’s city council meeting, Alpine Mayor Avinash Rangra announced he will not seek reelection .
Rangra was elected as mayor in May of 2012, with his term ending this May.
Previously, he served on the Alpine City Council and served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2003-2009.
In 2010, Rangra lost his bid to become Brewster County Judge in a race against Val Beard.
When asked tonight by Gazette Publisher John Waters if he intends to seek other elected office, Rangra said he was stepping down from public office.
