Luc Novovitch appointed Brewster County Commissioner to fill unexpired Pct. 1 seat
Brewster County issued the following press release this morning:
Luc Novovitch has been appointed by Judge Eleazar Cano to fill the unexpired term of Brewster County Precinct 1 Commissioner George Johnson. Mr. Novovitch and his wife, Barbara, moved to the Big Bend area in 1998, residing in Marathon for fifteen years before moving to Alpine. Before moving to the area, Mr. Novovitch and his wife had been working for Reuters News Agency in Washington D.C. where he was a photojournalist. Their move to the Big Bend was an important one, made after several visits to the area. Mr. Novovitch was born a French Citizen in Casablanca, Morocco. After his family moved back to Europe, he was educated in France, studying in Law and Political Science at the University of Lyon. After college he began working as a photojournalist. In Paris Mr. Novovitch met his Tennessee-born wife, and lived and worked there before moving to New York and then Washington, D.C.
Mr. Novovitch’s profession required him to be a team player and to be part of the solutions. “This is the attitude I intend to keep if I am appointed to fill the position of County Commissioner. Several topics are of interest to me, one being to work for access to a reasonable and decent Health System for all, an area which seems to be in need of serious improvement in our county-especially when it comes to transportation to out-of-county facilities when specialized care is needed”.
Mr. Novovitch became a U.S. citizen in 2000, after realizing he embraced and appreciated the values and traditions of the United States. Luc stated the following: “the same appreciation is behind my decision to present my candidature for this position, as I believe democracy really starts at the local level, where individuals can make a difference through public service”.
Judge Cano would like to thank all of the applicants whom submitted resumes for the position and encourage those interested to consider running for the position come election time. In the meantime, Judge Cano would also encourage the citizens residing in Pct. 1 to welcome Luc as their representative and share with him concerns and / or suggestions to help him have a successful appointment. Thank you all for your continued support and vote of confidence during this time transition.
