Sen. Carlos Uresti Files Secure Voter Registration Bill
A press release from state Senator Carlos Uresti- Austin, TX – Today Senator Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) filed SB 385, legislation that will increase the security of our voter registration process at a savings to taxpayers. “Under my bill, we’ll have a way to match potential voters to our state driver’s license database and require a match before we register that voter. The system will use some of the strongest security measures we have available, so the chance of fraud is eliminated. “By moving the system online, we’ll save millions on postage costs and increase accessibility to an important government service. The bill is a win-win for the taxpayer.” said Uresti. Sen. Uresti also filed measures that allow a mail-in ballot application to be submitted by electronic means (SB 384), increase the amount of time large counties are given to count mail-in ballots (SB 383), expand the number of school personnel trained to use automated external defibrillators (SB 382), and better utilize volunteers in our state parks (SB 381). Sen. Uresti represents Senate District 19, which covers more than 35,000 square miles and contains all or part of 17 counties, two international ports of entry, ten state parks, 61 school districts, 2700 miles of highways, and more than 23,000 producing oil and gas wells. The district is larger than 12 states and 82 Nations, and contains over half of the Texas-Mexico border. Sen. Uresti is proud to serve on the Finance, Natural Resources & Economic Development, Health & Human Services, and Administration Committees. |
