As of 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, the number of outages in the Alpine, Marathon, and surrounding areas had been reduced to approximately 660, according to Fred Hernandez, AEP Texas community affairs manager. That number compares with approximately 5,400 at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. As of 9:45 AM on Monday the number of outages in Brewster County is 120.

“We remain optimistic about restoring power to 250 residents in the Sunny Glenn subdivision near Alpine by late this evening,” Hernandez said. “We have restored power to some residents but found that the sudden increase in electric demand following service restoration was causing new outages. Consequently, we are now restoring power to the subdivision section by section.”

Crews continue to focus on remaining outages, which are concentrated in and around the city of Alpine, as well as outlying areas. Work continues to repair three major transmission lines serving the city and surrounding areas. Service was restored to the fourth major transmission line and substation serving Alpine on Saturday.

Rio Grande Electric says power may be restored to south Brewster County sometime tomorrow.
