Dr. Avinash Rangra of Alpine has made a $10,000 challenge donation to the Friends of Alpine Parks group that is currently being set up by Dr. Ekta Escovar also of Alpine.
Rangra, who is mayor of Alpine will present Escovar a check for $10,000 next Tuesday at the Alpine City Council meeting.
Dr. Escovar and Jennifer Ray are spearheading the Friends froup to raise money to improve parks in Alpine and beyond.
In an exclusive interview on Monday with the Big Bend Gazette, Rangra detailed the grant as a $10,000 personal donation contingent of the parks group raising an additional $50,000 from private sources.
On Tuesday, Rangra was introduced to the Alpine Parks and Recreation committee as “individual who is willing to donate $10,000. Rangra then formally addressed the committee regarding his donation.
Dr. Escovar is currently working on finalizing the formation of a non-profit corporation that individuals, businesses and foundations can make donations to that will improve local parks and the quality of life in the Big Bend.
