Letter to the editor (May 10, 2014)
In a campaign mailing I received today, Kathy Killingsworth implies that her opponent is “a rookie with zero administrative and budgetary experience.”
Eleazar Cano says that “I was the first program director of the Upward Bound Program at Sul Ross. As the director, it was my primary responsibility to develop our annual budget and ensure that all of the federal requirements were met, as well as ensure that the money was being spent in the intended manner. Our annual budget was approximately $300,000 per year. The Upward Bound Program was awarded to SRSU in 1998. During my tenure, I successfully completed the first four-year cycle and was awarded a money increase of $2.5 million for the second cycle due to exceptional performance during the 1998-2002 period. I have been an Alpine Independent School District school board trustee since 2005. As a trustee, one of our primary responsibilities is approving our annual budget. Our annual budget is approximately $10 million.”
One of them is lying to you – I suggest you vote for the one who isn’t.
