Terlingua Common School District Board retains Killingsworth as consultant
President of the Terlingua Common School District Board of Trustees Rick Page told the Gazette in a telephone interview that current Brewster County Judge Kathy Killingsworth has been retained by the school as a consultant.
“She will stay on as a consultant to continue to help out,” confirmed Page, adding that Killingsworth would assist school superintendent Bobbie Jones and business manager Jeanette Hall in working on school finances and to assure the school “does not get into trouble with the state.”
When asked why the school would continue to pay former TCSD Superintendent Killingsworth additional funds, when she was paid her full salary for the 2013-14 school year even though she resigned mid school year, in December, Page responded, “She had a lot of time, vacation time, that was paid out and check with the school for details.”
When Killingsworth resigned from the school in December she wrote in a memo to the staff, which read, in part, “As you know, we have lost enrollment over the last few years and much of our revenue. We have to down size [sic] so I took myself out. Our district cannot afford two administrators at this time.”
Unconfirmed reposts indicate Killingswoth is being paid $4,000 monthly for her work. The Gazette has contacted Jones and Killingsworth for an interview.
UPDATE: In an email from Judge Killingsworth to Gazette Publisher John Waters sent April 10 @ 2:56 pm, Killingsworth responded, “I am not a paid consultant with the school district.”
In an email sent April 10 @ 11:14 am, TCSD Superintendent Bobbie Jones responded, “Kathy Killingsworth is not a paid consultant to this school. She is available to provide administrative services to the district, at no charge, during this transition period.”
