Washington, D.C. – U.S. Representative Pete P. Gallego (D-Alpine) released the following statement today regarding reports that other members of Congress support drilling for oil or gas in Big Bend National Park:
“Big Bend National Park was my childhood playground – having grown up in Alpine. I support safely drilling for oil, gas and other natural resources where it makes sense. However, I do not support drilling in the Big Bend National Park.
“The park is an economic engine for our area and drives regional tourism and hospitality industries throughout the year. The park creates numerous jobs and a welcoming ambiance for people from across the country and world. As the U.S. Congressman for the park, my goal is to enhance, protect and preserve Big Bend National Park for generations and years to come. May our kids and grandkids enjoy the Big Bend’s incredible beauty as much as my friends and I did.”
