Senator John Cornyn, in a response to a question from the Big Bend Gazette this morning during a press call, said he thought the Boquillas Crossing was an “innovative approach” and a “novel port of entry.”
Cornyn told the Gazette he had visited the port of entry about six or nine months ago when he was in the area, and he had used one of the kiosks visitors will use to be processed into the United States after visiting Mexico. Cornyn added when he visited the facility there was no similar infastructure on the Mexican side of the border.
Cornyn said all park exits have Customs and Border Protection checkpoints and the port of entry does not compromise security.
Cornyn did not directly answer the Gazette’s question about the Boquillas Crossing possibly opening as early as tomorrow.
