During a regular business meeting of the Brewster County Tourism Council held today (Monday, November 19) in Alpine, David Elkowitz, Big Bend National Park spokeperson, confirmed that the opening date for the Boquillas Crossing Port of Entry between the United States and Mexico is uncertain.
“I hope in the next couple of months…” said Elkowitz about an opening date for the long-awaited crossing.
Although the Park Service has made no official announcement of an opening date, recently sources told the Gazette that Park Service and Department of the Interior officials were scheduled to visit the park on November 28 to celebrate the crossing’s official opening. Those sources confirmed those plans were more recently cancelled.
The port of entry was completed last spring and was originally scheduled to open in late March.
