The Big Bend Gazette is an independent news monthly about the Big Bend of Far West Texas, a vast and varied region of desert, mountains, and iconoclasts where the United States and Mexico meet at the Rio Grande. We feature unusual stories and essays with excellent writing, provocative cartoons, and intriguing photographs of the people and things who inhabit this land.
In September 2003, John Waters purchased the
Marathon Gazette, started in 2000, and, along with Marlys Hersey,
changed the name and expanded its focus. This winter (2010), we expanded our core staff to welcome Assistant Editor Megan Wilde.
With contributions from a core of highly-talented local writers, photographers, and cartoonists,
we publish the Gazette, a
regional monthly, from our offices in Terlingua and Alpine, Texas (west and northwest of Big Bend National Park, respectively). We print at The Monahans News, in Monahans, Texas.
The Gazette is sold at grocery
stores, restaurants, galleries, hotels, gas stations, and other venues
throughout the Big Bend (from Monahans to Terlingua, from Marfa to
Marathon) and mailed to subscribers nationwide.
Subscriptions are $28.00 (U.S.)
for one year. Please send a check or money order to The Big
Bend Gazette, along with your name, email, and mailing address.
